Bellingham Marine (BMI) is the world leader in the design, manufacturing, and construction of marinas and related products and services. BMI has installed more than 1.9 million square meters (20 million square feet) of dock systems throughout the United States and the world, including many high profile, landmark projects located in city waterfront centers. Our products and services cover virtually every aspect of the marina industry, from our flagship line of floating moorage to our dry stack storage systems. Examples of work performed in the private sector include marina design using site specific precision engineering, dock manufacturing, and construction. In the public sector, many of these same services are available as well as services to assess and assist in the “privatization” of public marinas. Bellingham Marine has also worked for the Navy and the Coast Guard manufacturing and installing floats and access docks for their vessel.
Bellingham Marine has 12 years of experience in pre-stress concrete products. Our facility located in Bellingham, Washington can accommodate ship or barge loading providing significant savings on transportation cost on many projects. It is certified by the Pre-cast/Pre-stressed Concrete Institute, the Washington State Department of Transportation and the City of Seattle, for the production of pre-cast/pre-stressed concrete products.

Unifloat® and Unideck® Covered Floating Docks
Covered Moorage: Covered wet slips are a logical way of protecting any sized vessel.
Bellingham Marine’s Unifloat® and Unideck® systems are available with a structurally designed roof system designed to protect boats and marina guests from the elements. These covered systems provide an open atmosphere under the roof while maintaining the structural strength for site-specific wind and snow loads, as engineered by Bellingham Marine. Special construction considerations are given to maintain the structural integrity of the roof and docking system.
Bellingham Marine’s covered moorage systems feature a galvanized steel framework that supports the roofing structure.
Customization: Like all of Bellingham Marine’s products, its roofing systems are site specific. They can be built to accommodate large yachts and houseboats as well as smaller vessels. However size is not the only element of Bellingham Marine’s covered moorage systems that can be customized; almost every aspect of the roofing system can be built to achieve maximum benefits from the site and surroundings. End and side walls can be added for increased protection and roofing material, color and style and be designed to fit into the overall architectural theme of the marina.
In regions where snow loading requirements are of concern, removable roofs can be designed to accommodate the local environment. With a removable roof, boaters can enjoy the comfort of the covered slips during the boating season, yet the roof can be removed prior to winter snows to meet the structural challenge of the snow loading requirements.
Technical Considerations: Bellingham Marine’s covered moorage systems are designed to meet the increased concerns associated with marina fires and provide appropriate fire protection. Preventive measures are adopted during the design and construction phase to significantly reduce potential hazards. Today, covered moorage structures are being equipped with smoke and heat vents to help slow the spread of fire by allowing heat and smoke to escape more quickly. Careful consideration is also given to the material of the roof to help avoid trapping the fire.
Installation: A number of US marinas have reaped the benefits of Bellingham Marine’s covered roofing systems. Several of Bellingham’s covered moorage projects include Jantzen Bay Marina in Oregon, Tiki Marina and Sacramento Marina in California, Kentucky Dam Marina in Kentucky and Willow Berm Marina in California.

Modern Concrete Floating Platforms
Bellingham Marine’s floating platforms are based on the pedigree of the successful Bellingham Unifloat® float modules and offer unrivalled quality, precision engineering, and state of the art stability.
Benefits: Bellingham’s floating platforms enable individuals to transform water into real estate. They enable owners to relocate operations that once required shore side property to the water. Designed and engineered as a stable and unsinkable system, Bellingham’s platform systems can be used for a variety of applications from building foundations to gangway platforms and ferry landings. Technical Considerations:Bellingham’s floating platforms are custom designed to meet various load capacities and customer specifications. Regulatory requirements; site conditions such as wind, wave, weather and geological conditions; and anticipated load requirements are all important elements considered in the design of the platform. Platforms can be constructed in large sections or assembled from modular sections allowing trucking to sites in remote locations. Bellingham can work as a single source contractor handling building and platform design or can work with your architect or builder to ensure design and installation of your platform is carried out with minimal fuss.

Unistack® Dry Storage Boat Buildings
Created to meet the growing demand for dry storage facilities, Unistack® accommodates boats up to 50 feet (15.24 meters) long. Stored inside the Unistack® dry storage structure, boats, along with their gel-coat surfaces, canvas and upholstery, are protected from sun, rain, ice, wind and the wear and tear of trailering.
Unistack® Design Features: the dry stack can be customized to meet any owner requirement. Racks are engineered to be adjustable and are easily reconfigured for boats of varying sizes and weights. Unistack® installations may be designed to accommodate retail concessions, repair and maintenance facilities and office space, at the owner’s discretion. Designs are prepared in feet and inches as well as metric per our international standards.

Aluminum and Galvanized Steel Frame Dock Systems
Bellingham Marine’s Unideck® system carries on the tradition of precision engineered deck systems.
Unideck® Inland-Water Flotation System: Capitalizing on decades of experience in salt-water dock systems, Bellingham Marine provides Unideck® metal frame systems for inland waterways, rivers and lakes. The result is the same concrete-decked appearance and durability as Unifloat® in a practical design for fresh-water.
Unideck®, Computer Designed and Performance Tested: Our computer designed Unideck® system was tested in over 400,000 wave test cycles at the University of Wisconsin. The designed proved its durability and has developed its own reputation in installations across the United States.
Unideck® Options: Unideck® marinas offer the same options as Unifloat®, including classic wood or plastic decking in lieu of cast concrete covered moorage and all necessary amenities.

Commercial and Residential Floating Docks
Bellingham Marine is pleased to offer its timber dock system to the marina industry. At Bellingham Marine our timber float systems have higher load capacities than other currently available commercial timber systems and are engineered to meet Bellingham’s strict design standards. Quality craftsmanship and top of the line materials ensure the highest level of quality and product consistency.
Bellingham’s timber systems are also designed to maximize shipping and installation efficiencies. This is accomplished by the unique design of the dock system, which features compressed frame modules. The compressed modules significantly reduce the footprint of the shipped components providing over 400% greater shipping capacity.
As the strongest commercially available pre-designed system on the market, Bellingham’s timber docks feature a continuous waler system with steel reinforced connectors. These features in conjunction with linear torsion beams provide not only increased strength but vastly increased stiffness to the dock system.
In general, wood is an economical and versatile construction material that is used by designers and contractors in the marine industry. Pressure-treated Southern Yellow Pine is a commonly used lumber; however, a variety of soft and hardwood lumber can be used to create the look and feel desired. When properly treated, most types of lumber can have a long useful life and be extremely durable.

They are precision engineered for your site to provide a system that is balanced both as an integral unit and within its environment, enabling Bellingham’s timber float systems to meet and exceed anticipated load and locale requirements.
The customization options for Bellingham Marine’s timber floats are as varied as the sites they occupy. Timber floats can be designed to meet the requirements of inland, coastal, freshwater, and saltwater environments.
Lumber choices include, but are not limited to, Southern Yellow Pine, Douglas Fir, several species of Cedar and a variety of imported hardwoods. Use of galvanized hardware and cleats are common choices among Bellingham’s customers but stainless options are also available.
Although there are numerous timber options available for your wood floats, it is important the lumber selected is able to withstand the conditions and climate of the region. Bellingham Marine has utilized its dependable and proven Unifloat® product for wave attenuation in numerous applications.
Acting as a floating “breakwater”, Unifloat® wave attenuators are designed and engineered to significantly reduce wave action entering a marina basin. These attenuators are an ideal solution for many harbor applications with some important benefits such as low environmental impact and no water depth limitations. There are four primary variables that affect attenuator performance. They are the mass, the width, the depth and the configuration of the attenuator. Each of these variables must be adjusted to meet the specific design wave criteria for every site.
Unifloat® Attenuator Advantages:Unifloat® attenuators do not inhibit tidal flow or marine ecology. Unifloat® attenuators are cost-effective where other breakwater solutions may not be feasible. Unifloat® attenuators are visually unobtrusive allowing for easy viewing of the waterfront. Unifloat® attenuators do not encourage siltation as other rubble mound or driven pile breakwaters might. Unifloat® attenuators are multi-purposed – – they may be used for transient moorage, public access and fishing, and barriers for floating debris.
